Green Concrete
The Need for Green Concrete
Cement production is the world’s single biggest industrial cause of carbon pollution and if the cement industry were a country it would be the third largest emitter in the world with up to 2.8 billion tonnes annually which is only surpassed by China and the United States. Any method to reduce the use of cement in concrete will therefore have a significant impact on global CO2 emissions.
International Energy Agency’s April report (“Technology Roadmap – Low-Carbon Transition in the Cement Industry” – 18 April 2022) contained a low-carbon technology road map, aimed at reducing cement industry emissions 24 percent by 2050.
Vytas’ High Strength Low Carbon Concrete
Current cement production releases almost 1 tonne of CO2 for every tonne of cement produced. Vytas has produced two products, the first being a supplementary cementing material to displace traditional ingredients and the other a pozzolan. Vytas’ goal is to produce an alternative cementitious material reducing CO2 by 90%.
