About Vytas
Objective and Growth
Vytas is a producer and developer of ‘technology materials’ that are essential to the global decarbonisation. Vytas was founded by an experienced management team with a long track record of success in technology materials, research and product development.
At Vytas, we understand that technology materials play a critical role in the transition to a renewable economy. We are focused on producing quartz-derived products including ultra-high purity quartz (UHPQ), silane and silicon for end-use in the solar industry, battery anode industry, and other industrial applications.
We are also developing an innovative production method for Green Hydrogen On Demand using a proprietary flow sheet.
Our goal at Vytas is to become Australia’s leading provider of technology materials by disrupting incumbent processes with our low-cost, low-carbon advancements. By reducing production costs our quartz products, silane, silicon and green hydrogen, we believe our products can accelerate the adoption of renewable energy technologies.
Vytas will make a positive difference to you and your family with its technology materials, by unlocking the promise of renewable energy being more affordable, safe and sustainable.
Vytas has circa 3,000km2 of tenement area, supporting the production of the following technology materials:
Ultra High Purity Quartz (UHPQ)
High-purity quartz (HPQ) and UHPQ are important materials used in the production and manufacture of optical glass, optical fibre, crucibles and silicon. HPQ and UHPQ has additional end-use applications in the medical industry and high-end electronics.
- Vytas is producing UHPQ at bulk-scale with product specifications of 4N7, 4N8 and 5N (99.999% SiO2)
Carbon Free Silicon
Vytas is scaling production of silicon, using a novel production method for a carbon-free product. Most industrial silicon produced globally has a high carbon footprint due to the high-energy costs and requirement for a carbon-based reagent. Vytas’ silicon product is disrupting the cost and carbon of the current industrial standard.
- Vytas is producing small-scale silicon for product qualification in the silicon anode industry and for production of hydrogen
Silane
Vytas is commercialising production of silane (polysilicon precursor) using carbon-free silicon and a low energy conversion process.
- Vytas is engaged in commercialisation studies for the silane product
Green Hydrogen On Demand
Vytas is developing production of green hydrogen that can be produced without the need for energy inputs, and can be produced at point of consumption, greatly expanding the potential reach and deployment of green hydrogen in the global economy. Hydrogen can be produced utilising Vytas’s silicon feedstock, an alternative method of production than electrolysis.
- Vytas is developing a pilot plant to scale-up application of its green hydrogen “on demand”
The Global Challenge Vytas seeks to Resolve
After 34 years (accepting Germany’s bench mark of 1990) “no jurisdiction on this planet has achieved clean energy pursuing a renewable energy strategy, unless the renewables are supported by nuclear or hydro.”
This can be confirmed by assessing the average CO2 per kWh of NZ, Tasmania, Ontario, Sweden, Norway, France etc who all achieved clean energy (14 to 70g CO2/kWh) in the 1980s.
Meanwhile jurisdictions like Germany who pursued renewables are delivering 400 to 500g CO2/kWh. Germany has committed USD$1.5 trillion but remains decades behind global leaders during a “climate emergency”.
The technical challenge to be resolved, to unlock the promise of renewable energy, is the ability to store green energy when produced in abundance, in a manner which is safe, scalable, affordable and can produce dispatchable power on demand.
Australia’s Choice
Australia can follow Germany and be a customer of global renewable infrastructure suppliers delivering 400 to 500g CO2/kWh.
The alternative is to use Australia’s Green Hydrogen “On Demand” and in doing so, join global leaders delivering 14 to 70g CO2/kWh.
Green Hydrogen “On Demand” – A solution that works
Green Hydrogen “On Demand” is where the hydrogen is produced moments before consumption in the car on the go, in heavy industrial machinery (mining equipment and agriculture), ships and land based power stations.
Being On Demand, unlike electrolysis, the costs and safety challenges of storage and logistic of hydrogen is mitigated. No liquification, no high pressure and no ammonia. This will save billions in tax payers dollars, otherwise to be spent in already obsolete hydrogen infrastructure. More importantly, it will save lives.
It also means Vytas’ process supports national security, as sea lanes are not required to remain open for energy security.
Electrolysis also requires fresh water competing with industry, agriculture and townships. Where Vytas’ process can use sea water, human waste and other non-beneficial water and produces abundant amounts of fresh water, meaning we support industry, agriculture and townships.
Green Hydrogen “On Demand” is a safe, scalable, affordable process to store green energy when produced in abundance and can respond to demand to deliver dispatchable power. Unlocking the promise of renewable energy and delivering 14-70g CO2/kWh that otherwise can only be achieved by nuclear or hydro.
