Carbon Free Nano-Porous Silicon
Vytas has produced a nano-porous carbon free silicon using a process optimised in its own laboratory.
The Company intends to explore the potential to use a low cost, low energy, more environmentally friendly method to convert the silica to a nano-porous silicon, which is suitable for:
- silicon anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LiB); and
- silicon anodes for the electrolysis process for the production of Green Hydrogen
Silicon Anodes for Lithium-Ion Batteries
The use of nano-porous silicon as an anode material for lithium-ion batteries is well documented. Nano-porous silicon has numerous benefits over traditionally used graphite including:
- 10x greater charge density for enhanced performance
- Significantly greater surface area for faster charging
Vytas will seek partnerships with battery manufacturers to commercialise this material.
Silicon Anodes for Green Hydrogen
Silicon is considered both conductive and non-corrosive, and therefore the use of the nano-porous silicon anode material will enable current electrolyses to use saline (incl. seawater) and other non-beneficial water sources, preserving our fresh water for future generations.
Vytas will seek partnerships with anode manufacturers to commercialise this material.
